Long Cycling Tights: Lycra, Insulated, Winter and Gravel
The knee is a cyclist's most vulnerable joint. When temperatures drop below 15°C, the exposed kneecaps and ligaments are exposed to the cooling of synovial fluid. Learn how to choose long cycling tights for the temperature, riding style, and weather conditions.
When to swap shorts for long pants?
There's a rule of thumb in cycling: below 15°C, knees must be protected. The rush of air at speeds of 30-35 km/h dramatically cools the joint capsule and patellar tendons. Riding with exposed knees in cold conditions is a surefire path to inflammation and chronic injuries.
INONI's long cycling tights are divided into 3 key categories adapted to the temperature and riding style:
1. Lycra Trousers / Transition (10–18°C)
Lightweight, aerodynamic, and available with or without insulation, they provide complete protection against wind and UV radiation without causing overheating during intense workouts.
2. Insulated & Winter with Membrane (-5°C to 10°C)
Made from Italian SuperRoubaix fabric with a DWR Teflon coating to repel water. Deep winter models feature a ZeroWind membrane on the thighs and knees to block icy winds.
3. Long Gravel Cargo Trousers (0–15°C)
Designed with spacious, stretchy mesh thigh pockets, they're perfect for bikepacking trips, gravel marathons, and multi-hour trails over variable terrain.

Tip: Long pants or shorts + legs?
For temperatures between 12 and 18°C , a perfect, flexible solution is a set of shorts + knee warmers or cycling leg warmers. When the sun comes out at midday, you can take off the legs and stuff them in your pocket. However, when the temperature drops below 10°C or the wind is gusty, full-length bib shorts are unmatched – they eliminate any thermal breakage and protect the hips and lower back.
