Rafał Wilk

I'm a Paralympic cyclist, winner of the World Championship and Paralympic Championship titles.
I was a speedway rider, skier, cyclist, and then... a handball cyclist. I began racing on the speedway track in the early 1990s with Stal Rzeszów and finished with the Krosno Motor Association. My career was tragically cut short in Krosno on May 3, 2006, after an accident on the track during a first-division match against GTŻ Grudziądz. After colliding with a barrier on the last bend just before the finish line, the accident resulted in a broken spine and a severed spinal cord in the lumbar region.
I didn't give up on the sport. After six months of rehabilitation, I returned to the slopes as a monoski skier. I still ski to this day. I haven't lost touch with the speedway sport either. For two years I was the coach of STAL Rzeszów, and for the next two years 2010-2011 I was the coach of Motor Lublin.

In 2010, I returned to active sports. I focused on improving my cycling skills. And it was a bull's-eye.
At first, I learned from others, from the doyen of handcycling in Poland, Zbigniew Wandachowicz. Slowly, I reached his level. In 2011, I competed for the first time in the Paracycling World Championships in Denmark. I finished 6th in the time trial and 7th in the road race. During the Olympic season, I won the World Cup final standings. I won all two events at my first Paralympic Games, London 2012 – the time trial and the road race. After the Games, I spoke on behalf of the athletes to representatives of the highest state authorities: "It's nice that everyone is interested in us today. It's really cool. But it's a shame that this interest was lacking before we left for London, when we really needed it most."

In a poll by "Przegląd Sportowy" and Polish Television, I was named the best disabled athlete of 2012. In 2013, I won the World Cup again. During the world championships in Quebec, Canada, I stood on the podium twice – in the road race and the time trial. In 2014, I became World Champion for the third time in the individual time trial in Greenville, USA. The past year, 2015, has been a special year for me – I won a double World Championship in Nottwill, Switzerland, won the overall World Cup and European Cup, and for the fourth time in a row won the UCI rankings.
On December 1st, I began preparations for the 2016 season
This is an Olympic year, a very important year for every athlete. I have qualified for the Paralympic Games in Rio 2016, but in addition to enormous commitment and grueling training, I need financial support to achieve my dream goal.

Numerous training camps, performance monitoring tests, and equipment are associated with significant costs, reaching up to 50,000 złoty. Equipment requirements include bicycle parts, such as bearings, derailleurs, and wheels. Training camps and the opportunity to train in optimal conditions, in a significantly warmer climate, are an important element of the training cycle. During preparations, I also plan a high-altitude camp and numerous trips directly related to the Games.
The funds and financial support you have received will guarantee my development opportunities and comfortable preparation for the Olympic year. I assure you that I will do my utmost to defend my gold medals in London. I also promise information and promotion of the sponsoring brand on my website, social media, and in the media.
